Every March the Bookworm International Literary Festival brings big-name writers such as David Sedaris, Peter Hessler, Amitav Ghosh and Mai Jia to Chengdu, providing an amazing opportunity to listen to talks on everything from the Opium Wars to contemporary China, from performance poetry and stand-up to the secrets of Shanghai girls. This year's festival will run from March 8 to 24 and offers renowned novelists, the latest books on China and local literary stars. The festival is made possible by corporate sponsors at a national and local level and by the generosity of private patrons.
