Introduction
We are an independent group made up of representatives of private businesses and educational establishments, all of whom have a strong interest in the sustainable development of Chengdu.
We aim to:
- Lead the way in sustainable development of Chengdu
- Achieve a position of prominence and work with the local government in implementing sustainable practices
- Encourage sustainable development by raising awareness as to the benefits of sustainable living and sustainable development
Mission statement
Inspired by the Chengdu-British Consulate Modern World Garden City MoU and recognising the potential of environmentally-friendly business in China and worldwide, the Sustainable Chengdu Working Group, together with the Chengdu business, government, and educational communities hereby seeks to encourage the implementation of sustainable technologies, demonstrate best practices, and support education initiatives that will ultimately promote an environmentally sustainable approach to economic and urban development in Chengdu.
Deliverables
- Support the aims of the UK-Chengdu MoU in creating a Modern World Garden City
- Work closely with Chengdu government, British Consulate General, Sheffield government
- Create a website as an accessible resource on sustainability in Chengdu that promotes Chengdu and the group
- Support and organise educational initiatives, events and activities
- Produce reports that demonstrate low carbon principles which will be a high value resource to inform and assist the sustainable business community in Chengdu
- Provide a forum for the community to work together on sustainable issues
- Identify projects and initiatives that can demonstrate best practices in sustainable development and design
