British Day & Global Citizen Festival Review

24 September 2016 – On a sunny Saturday the British Chamber of Commerce in Southwest China & CBBC, along with UrTurn Events, The BARN, Welfare for Animals and Chengdu-Expat hosted the largest Chamber event ever, with the British Day & Global Citizen Festival bringing over 1500 attendees to GIC in Chengdu for a day of family fun, entertainment, and a look to the future as the GCF brought awareness of the Global Goals.

Guests enjoyed a range of games and activities from the Chambers members and non-members, and our schools battled it out in the centre arena with tug of war and egg and spoon competitions taking place. We’d like to thank all of our members in education (and potential future ones!) for taking part in the festivities on Saturday, as it is their energy, enthusiasm and kind contribution of time that ensures that this is the biggest and best event for kids in Chengdu.

Money was raised during the day for the Rotary Club of Chengdu’s Qionglai Organic Farming Project, teaching disadvantaged children how they can turn organic farming into a future and a better life. We are thankful to the Rotary Club for helping out throughout the day, and are happy to announce that we have been able to raise RMB 44,250 for their project.

Bands and solo artists played throughout the day, with the Global Citizen Festival in particular featuring a particular focus on music in addition to the promotion of the Global Goals. If you would like to find out more about the Global Citizen Festival, please go to the GlobalCitizen.org website.

The day represented one of the biggest events of the year in Chengdu and next year we look to make the event even larger, more family-friendly, and fun! We’re now looking for key partners for next year, which will be held at the end of April! If you are interested in being involved in the British Spring Fete (name TBC) and to avoid missing out, then please contact us now at info@britchamswchina.org.
