The development of green buildings in China has undergone major advancements in 2017. With the rapid development of green practice, CBRE and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC)—jointly published the China Green Building Annual Report. The report provides a comprehensive review of LEED and WELL development in China, also existing trend in Green Finance in the local market.

According to the 13th Five-Year Plan of Green Building Development, 2016-2020 will be a period of acceleration of “quantity and quality” for green buildings in China.  Promotion and adoption of the China Green Building Certification has been mostly policy-driven whereas the LEED certification is a much concise indicator of actual demand due to its market independence and third-party status. As an increasing number of high quality commercial property projects in China have adopted the LEED certification, the environmental and economic advantages of this accreditation have become more apparent and noticeable. Such positive feedback from the market has led to further adoption, thus further understanding of relevant market trends will be the major focus of this report.  As a global leader, China’s involvement in a sustainable built environment is essential and the nation is rising to the task. The exponential growth of green building in China is a remarkable achievement and the positive effects benefit all.
