Member’s Promotion: The St. Regis Chengdu Appoints Rodrigo Martinez as Executive Chef

Chengdu, Sichuan, China, May 2018 ——The St. Regis Chengdu announced the appointment of Rodrigo Martinez as the new Executive Chef. Mr. Rodrigo will be fully in charge of daily culinary operations and management.

A native of Chile, Rodrigo Martinez discovered his love for cooking at the precocious age of 18. With more than 20 years’ culinary experience, his passion for food took on a high-end route when he enrolled in the Universidad Catolica De Chile.He later worked at the Sheraton Santiago Hotel and Convention Center, until promoted to Sous Chef. Then, he joined the San Cristobal Towers, A Luxury Collection Hotel as Chef de Cuisine. After a short time, he moved to Mexico and explored his first St. Regis journey as one of the pre-opening team members. It was here while he was working as its Executive Chef de Cuisine that the hotel won the Five Diamond Award in the first year of operation.  To continue his culinary journey, Rodrigo moved to Qatar at the end of 2010, and worked as Chef de Cuisine at W Doha Hotel & Residence. Later, Martinez joined The Westin Xiamen, China, where he started to innovate his cuisine with Chinese local ingredients. From October 2014 to February 2018, he held a series of management positions at multiple international branded hotels in Dubai.

When asked about his culinary concept, Rodrigo describes it this way: “Cooking is all about passion and creativity. I always develop new menu concepts with simplicity in line with what is trending in the market and combined with my knowledge of international cuisines.”
