Members First Aid Training | Event Review

On Tuesday the 19th of November, the British Chamber of Commerce SW China along with Chengdu Gleneagles Hospital organised a first-aid training day for its members.

Dr. Jerome Liew, an Australian trained qualified general practitioner began the day by discussing the basics Adult Basic Life Support which included an explanation of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), when it might be necessary to administer, for instance, during Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA); he also highlighted the importance of high-quality CPR in chances of survival, possible evidence for SCA, and the first steps in immediate response (including the use of Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)). Dr. Jerome also discussed asphyxia/choking scenarios and explained the Heimlich manoeuvre as a response. Then, members each had the opportunity to practice administrating CPR with the use of an AED, supported by Dr. Jerome and the team of nurses, before ending with a tour of the hospital.
