PM Theresa May’s decision on whether to build a controversial Chinese-financed nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Southwest England has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. The deal would be a massive coup for the Chinese nuclear industry, which has made winning international contracts one of its core priorities.

Liu Xiaoming, China’s ambassador to the UK, stated “I hope the UK will keep its door open to China and that the British government will continue to support Hinkley Point — and come to a decision as soon as possible so that the project can proceed smoothly.”

There have been some concerns in the UK over the future implications of the deal, which has led to a delay in the project going ahead.
