On Saturday the 21st of January, the 6th Annual Burns Night was once again successfully held by the British Chamber of Commerce in China & China-British Business Council (BritCham/CBBC) and the Chengdu Single-Malt Whisky Club (CMWC), at Diamond Bay Health and Lifestyle Centre. All the profits from this year’s event went towards the YMCA and the Rotary Club of Chengdu as arranged through the Jinjiang District Social Organisation Development Foundation.
A few whiskeys in!
As most frequenters of the celebration will know, the event is held to celebrate the incredible life of Scottish poet Robert (“Rabbie”) Burns and the event must follow a strict schedule including poetry, singing, ceilidh dancing, an address to the lassies, a reply from the lassies. And, of course, the address to the haggis. This was all performed excellently by the seasoned guests.
As part of the event partygoers enjoyed a live bagpipe player, a salmon station, a cocktail bar, 35 bottles of fine whiskey as (sponsored by Old Bridge) and a fantastic 3 course meal as provided by Chef Josh of Temple House including a genuine Scottish haggis!
