At the Careers Service, the University of Sheffield, we are organising our first ever International Online Virtual Fair. The fair aims to develop an online platform where our international students could meet employers from their home countries that are recruiting graduates from UK universities returning back home.
The Virtual International Career Fair we are organising is free of charge for employers. If British Chamber of Commerce Southwest China or any of your members are interested to participate, you will have a virtual ‘booth’ to raise your profile on campus and advertise your vacancies. Interested students will leave questions for you to answer. You can also have a virtual lecture theatre to present in front of the students (presentations can be pre-recorded and uploaded in advance), and have a live chat afterwards.
The fair will be taking place in w/c 20 March.
To set up the ‘booth’ we will need:
– Your company logo – as a high resolution JPEG or EPS
– A sales statement, theme or message to be display across your booth
– Names and email addresses of staff members who will require a log in
If you would like to hold an employer presentation in our virtual lecture theatre, my colleague Ellie Shepherd (copied in) will get in touch shortly to confirm a slot in w/c 20 March for your presentation/live chat. One slot lasts one hour.
Hope this explains everything. If you are interested and would like to participate, please contact y.ling@sheffield.ac.uk to get in touch.

Before starting exports to China, the seasoned export manager of an EU SME has to gather intelligence data about a number of issues paramount for success including topics like which sort of competition can you expect in China, where to search for market information regarding the category of the products, how to conduct a store check, know importers involved, and other aspects which if neglected often increase costs, cause unnecessary delays, or even worse lead to take wrong decisions.
Another crucial aspect that EU SMEs should pay attention to is making sure their Intellectual Property (IP) rights are protected in China. If intellectual property has not been protected in the Chinese jurisdiction, there is potential for major financial consequences as counterfeiting and other IP infringements still prevail in China. This webinar provides top-level expert advice on how to get your products safely to the shelves in China while also protecting your IP rights.
During the webinar you can expect:
• Information on what you need to know before starting to export to China
• Overview how to protect your main IP rights in China
• Expert tips and watch-outs on how build a robust export strategy to China
• Various case studies

With more than 649 million ‘netizens’, China connects more people to the Internet than any other country. Moreover, the growing trend towards online shopping for products and services means that the Internet is now one of the main sales channel for many companies. Although the Internet acts as a gateway for European SMEs, it is also an ideal platform for infringers to sell counterfeit products. Thus, the European SMEs need to have a good strategy in place to protect their IP rights on e-commerce platforms in China.
On Wednesday, 29 March 2017, you are welcome to join Helpdesk expert Mr. Daniel Albrecht for a China IPR SME Helpdesk webinar session “How to Protect Your IPR at Chinese E-Commerce Market“. Mr. Albrecht will give a detailed overview to European SMEs about e-commerce landscape in China, covering IPR Issues such as:
- Trade mark registration, protection and enforcement;
- What can SMEs do if their rights are violated;
- Can SMEs hold e-commerce platforms liable for IP infringements;
- Practical tips on how to create a robust IP protection strategy in e-commerce sector;
- Practical case studies involving European SMEs.
This free of charge web-based seminar is composed of a 45-minute expert presentation, where Mr. Albrecht will take you through a range of simple, cost-effective measures to protect your company against IP infringements in China. This will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session where all our participants can pose questions to the expert.
