Well-being is essential for all people, young and old, to thrive and succeed: emotionally, personally, academically and professionally. Traditionally the focus has been on physical well-being. However, the recent shift of emphasis to mental health is crucial if individuals and organisations are to flourish in an increasingly competitive world. Companies that focus on this growing area of research and practice are likely to find a community that is happier, more collaborative, more productive and, ultimately, more successful.
The British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong, together with Independent Thinking (IT), will be hosting a seminar focusing on well being. IT is a global leader on topics including teaching and learning, motivation, creativity, leadership, social justice, neuroscience, the environment and well being. The seminar will to help all organisations have a greater understanding of:
- the impact of change on our well-being and what we can do for ourselves as professionals and the children and young people we work with
- the knowledge, skills and strategies to be able to re-connect with others after isolation through human connectedness and ways to measure personal emotional health
- the simple well-being techniques to help ourselves as well as others through self-care and self-compassion
- how to identify the needs of others and what steps can be put in place to enhance personal well being
- how to plan and implement changes to monitor the well being of all.
Whilst of particular interest to those in education, the seminar will be of use to all organisations and all parents!

The British Chamber of Commerce in Southwest China will hold its 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 1st of July 2020（Wednesday）, 16:00 – 18:00 hrs at The Temple House Chengdu. We would like to invite all members to attend this meeting.
What is an Annual General Meeting (AGM)?
The AGM is the Chamber’s most important business meeting of the year. It is where we review the activities for 2019/20 and look forward to the next year. The main goals of the event are:
– A year in review
– Chairman Report
– Treasurer Report
– Elect the Board of Directors
Who can attend the AGM?
Any employee from any of our member companies can attend – and it is fine to have multiple attendees from one company. No distinction is made between “CBBC members” and “BritCham members”. Individual members may also attend but may not vote. Non-members may not attend!
Available Positions
There are 10x Executive Committee positions available for nomination, which are:
4x Officers: Including one Chairperson, two Vice Chairpersons, and one Treasurer, who will be responsible for the day-to-day business of the Chamber and be entitled to vote on all issues before the Committee; and
6x At-large Committee Members: Who will assist the Officers in carrying out the day-to-day business of the Chamber and be entitled to vote on all issues before the Committee.
Who can vote at the AGM?
Only corporate voting member company are entitled to vote. Each member company has one “nominated person” who is the main point of contact with the Chamber and normally this will be the person who attends the AGM to vote. However, we can easily transfer the vote to another company representative if that person agrees. If more than one person attends from the same company then only one may vote.

How to Apply
To apply or nominate a candidate for one of the above positions, please fully complete the attached form ‘BCCSWC China Executive Committee Nomination Form 2020′.
All applications must be sent to Chen.Bing@britishcouncil.org.cn ( and CC mavis.yang@britchamswhchina.org) by Wednesday 17th June 2020 or they will not be accepted.

Please note, only Voting Corporate Member Company Representatives* may run and are eligible to vote at the AGM.
Please also note that if your company is over 2 months in arrears of membership renewal payment you will not be eligible for nomination or to vote. Please contact mavis.yang@britchamswchina.org to check your membership status or complete your renewal process.
