Senior Trade and Investment Officer,  Retail, Creative Industries.

Roles and responsibilities:

25%: Developing and maintaining good contacts with potential and existing Chinese trade and investment partners as well as stakeholders in the wider teams such as China Britain Business Council (CBBC), British Council (BC) and UK Regional Development Agency Representatives in China. This includes regular visits to Chinese companies, developing strong working relationships and providing information on Trade and investment opportunities.


30%: Working closely with the team and leading on identifying business opportunities from South West China, establishing links for UK expertise and facilitating business co-operation.


30%: Undertaking pro-active work to develop and maintain an investment pipeline; identifying growth opportunities for current and potential Chinese Creative Industries as well as Retail and Consumer investors in the UK; generating new leads through media monitoring and understanding of the China sector.


15%: Leading activities within business plan to contribute to team targets; organising events such as visits from UK delegations, visits to the UK by Chinese companies, seminars, receptions and other Trade & Investment events and market access activities; working on visits and programmes for Ministers and senior officials.

Main tasks include:

Driving and inspiring UK exports to China, significantly increasing the UK market share of China’s goods imports, and more than double the value of UK services exports.


Consistent trade policy engagement with China to achieve incremental market access, mitigate business risk and prepare for future trade deals


Broadening and deepening the UK-China investment partnership, positioning the UK as the top European destination for Chinese investment and providing strong support for UK investors.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

Excellent / Highly Proficient in spoken and written English

Excellent / Highly Proficient in spoken and written Chinese

Track record in building and maintaining strong working relationships;

Excellent interpersonal, communication, prioritisation and networking skills;

Track record of delivering against targets;

Ability to work alone or as part of a team;

Recruitment position

Executive Assistant to the Consulate General

Role, responsibilities and main tasks:

1. Personal Assistant to Consul-General (45%)

Forward planning CG`s commitments, diary management, assisting         with CG’s budget management (monthly claims, budget profiling etc.)

Lead on CG`s visits, programmes and events, including close coordination with Corporate Services team on drivers’ time

Arrange internal and external meetings

Draft and translate letters and speeches

Coordinate (or where necessary prepare) briefing for events

Assist where possible on bookings, external engagements for Deputy Consul General

2. Cross-post visits, projects and co-ordination work (20%)

Arrange programmes and coordinate visits of VIPs from FCO/Embassy, and other government departments

Coordinate activities, events and inquiries mainly from local FAOs and diplomatic missions

Establish and maintain links with Chinese stakeholders

3.  Chevening Project Management (30%)

Chevening administration lead: recruitment; work with PPA team on marketing & promotion

Chevening alumni engagement: build and maintain active alumni network in Southwest China; bid and manage Chevening Alumni Programme Fund on yearly basis, design and deliver 10-20 Chevening events in Southwest China based on needs and capacity

4. Line Manager for Residence Housekeeper (5%)

Management of Residence Housekeeper

Oversight of Residence upkeep

Oversight of preparations for Residence functions/post function clean up

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

-Bachelor’s degree and above

-Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office, Internet

-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong customer focus

-Personal drive and the ability to be a self-starter as well as a team player

-Strong organisational, analytical and time management skills, with very good attention to detail

-Flexible, resilient under pressure and decisive with a proven track record of delivering results to a high standard within tight deadlines
