
On Wednesday, November 20th, BritCham Southwest hosted the Education Focus Group: Early Years Seminar at the BIBS Chengdu Campus. The seminar welcomed around 20 attendees from various education organizations, creating an inspiring platform for educators and parents to share knowledge and ideas on “Nurturing Resilient and Well-Rounded Learners in a Changing World“.
11月20日星期三,中国西南英国商会在成都市龙泉驿区青苗学校组织了教育焦点小组:早期教育研讨会,来自教育界不同组织的约20名与会者参加了此次活动, 分享了关于“在变化的世界中培养有韧性且全面发展的学习者”主题的知识与见解。




Sam Pu, General Manager of BritCham SW, opened the event by highlighting the chamber’s commitment to supporting meaningful discussions in education.
The keynote speakers shared valuable insights through case studies and best practices:
· Jean Li, Head of Early Years Foundation Stage at Malvern College Chengdu, presented a case study titled “Grab Apple Journey” that explored how a structured yet flexible approach to early years education can support resilience and confidence in young learners.
· Nigel Jones, IB Academic Principal and Primary School Principal at BIBS, introduced the concept of the “Learning Pit”—a model that helps children understand the process of grappling with challenges, developing persistence, and emerging with newfound understanding.
· Katie Cornish, Early Years Teacher at Léman International School, emphasized the value of risky play, outdoor exploration, and cultural competence. She shared how these approaches not only nurture creativity but also help children develop problem-solving skills, adaptability, and an appreciation for diversity.

Following the presentations, Abbie Holmes, Vice Chair of BritCham SW and Deputy Head of Primary School at Malvern College Chengdu, facilitated an engaging panel discussion. Attendees and speakers discussed practical strategies for cultivating resilience in early years students, focusing on the importance of creating safe spaces for risk-taking, embracing failure as part of growth, and integrating cultural awareness into the learning process.
个人演讲结束后,中国西南英国商会副主席、成都墨尔文学校小学部副校长 Abbie Holmes 主持了一场引人入胜的小组讨论。与会者和演讲者讨论了培养早期学生适应能力的实用策略,重点关注为冒险创造安全空间的重要性,接受失败作为成长的一部分,以及将文化意识融入学习过程的重要性。


The seminar concluded with a lively Q&A session, leaving attendees inspired with fresh ideas to implement in their educational settings.
